My child is a beginner, will I need clubs at the first lesson?

While we truly believe each child should have their own set of clubs, in the beginning it is not necessary.  We offer rental clubs while getting them properly fit for their own set in the near future.  Once they reach level 2, it is imperative that they have their own, fitted set, to use.

When should my child consider competing in tournaments?

Tournament play is very different from casual golf.  The heightened emotions that come along with competition will normally exacerbate any flaws.  Furthermore, the gap between skill level can present an emotional problem for the players.

We recommend that you go through the ICE GOLF JPD levels and use them according to this structure: Level 1 is an introduction to golf, Level 2 is an introduction to playing on-course, and Level 3 is an introduction to competition.  Once a student reaches Level 3, they should have the necessary skills to participate in competitions.

WHAT scores should I expect when my child competes?

These are the commonalities we see in tournament scores as it relates to the current Levels:

  • Level 2: 54-57 for 9 holes; 108-114 for 18 holes

  • Level 3: 51-54 for 9 holes; 102-108 for 18 holes

  • Elite:

    • E0: 48-51 for 9 holes; 96-102 for 18 holes

    • E1/E2: 45-48 for 9 holes; 90-96 for 18 holes

    • E3: 42-45 for 9 holes; 84-90 for 18 holes

    • E4: 39-42 for 9 holes; 78-84 for 18 holes

These scores are not intended to be exact and are relative to the person’s skill level. Tournament play does affect the scoring ability and managing the emotions with that is key to performing relative to your skill.

How long will it take before my child can win a tournament?

There is no guarantee in winning.  To achieve this level of play, there are many variables that need to be in place.  There is, however, a way to increase the probability.

Our programs are designed to give each student, depending on their level of commitment, the training they require to achieve what the wish to achieve.  Should a child wish to win tournaments, it is recommended that those children utilize the COMPETE or and of the ELEVATE programs.  This will ensure the proper amount of time and training is given to achieve their goals.

Should a student enroll in one of these programs, depending on their level of commitment, it can be expected that in one year, they will begin to be competitive and within two, can win a tournament.

What is the process for signing up and playing in a tournament?

The answer to this question is not simple as the requirements may be different depending on the tour you are playing. In general, these are the steps:

  • There will be a series of events (tournaments) within a specific season.

  • There will likely be a membership fee to join the tour and then additional fees for each event you are playing.

  • Depending on your age group, you will play 9-, 18-, or 36-holes. If you are just beginning tournament play, players under 11 will play 9-holes and players 11 and over will play 18 for most events.

  • Awards are presented for the lowest score typically up to 3rd place but sometimes 5th.

  • Most tours allow caddying but this is relative to each individual tour. Please see our Caddying FAQ

  • Spectator carts are normally allowed and at an additional cost. This will be specific to each course and tour.

  • Players will normally be required to walk but there are a few occasions where this is not true.
